2- The body weight of an adult reindeer has steadily decreased over the past 16 years. To monitor this, the researchers studied reindeer in the Svalbard region of the Norwegian Arctic. About a 12bodyweight per cent reduction in adult weight was recorded. Experts consider the reason for this to be global warming.

3- The results of the study, presented before the British Ecological Society in Liverpool, said that reindeer born in 2010 were around 48 kg when they were adults. At the same time, those born in 1994 used to weigh about 55 kilograms until this age. Steve Albon, who led the study, said: "While this reduction of 12 per cent may not sound like a big deal, it is significant because of the close association of body weight with reproduction and life." Albon is doing research at the James Hutton Institute in Scotland.

Lichens are the main diet of reindeer in winter. Lichens are complex organisms in which a fungus lives in a symbiotic relationship with algae or bacteria. The researcher explains, "When reindeer go hungry, they leave their young or give birth to very thin babies.

6- Researchers predict that Arctic reindeer will become more numerous in numbers but smaller in size and mass in the coming decades. If this cycle of climate change does not stop, then the reindeer will die without food. This team has been monitoring Arctic reindeer since 1994. They measure 10-month-old babies in the winter and return to record their weight and size the following summer.

7- Another study that came out in the same year reported that in the winter of 2013-14, about 61,000 reindeer died of starvation in the Yamal Peninsula of Siberia. The reason for this was also attributed to the phenomenon of "rain on the snow", which caused the reindeer to feed on lichens.

* Their eyes have a special ability, with the help of which they can see things deep even in the white snow all around.

Lack of Food:-

Temperatures are rising in the Arctic, resulting in more rain and snow accumulation. In such a situation, the reindeer are unable to find their food, they go hungry. They leave their young ones behind or give birth to very thin babies. In many areas, their weight has decreased by 12 per cent.

Environmental Imbalance:-

Environmental imbalance is the main reason for their declining numbers. Their residential areas are heating up, making them weak and sick. Apart from this, flies and parasites growing in the changing season are also making them sick.

Special Feature:-

Reindeer have a special blood circulation system in their body which keeps their body warm even with less energy expenditure. This ability helps keep them alive in extremely cold areas. Their nose has 25 per cent more blood vessels than humans, which are capable of heating the icy wind. On breathing, it heats the air entering inside their body. That's why his nose looks pink.
